A political analyst in Kano, Abdulkadir Ibrahim, also known as Abba Gwale, has stated that many voters in Northern Nigeria believe the rising opposition coalition may be the only chance to defeat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general election, as reported by Daily Post on Thursday, 24 July, 2025.
Speaking in an exclusive interview, Gwale explained that although Peter Obi has not formally joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), many Northerners already consider him part of the movement.
He said the major actors driving the coalition are mostly from the North and are working behind the scenes to build strong support.
He revealed that many voters in the North are seriously looking at the coalition as an alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to him, the belief is growing that the coalition is the strongest path to removing Tinubu from power.
Gwale said that Northern voters are likely to turn out in large numbers if a strong candidate comes from the coalition.
He believes that many people in the region are tired of the current government and are ready to support a new political direction.
He added that if Northerners vote massively for the coalition, it could put serious pressure on the ruling party.
He also mentioned that the ADC is gaining more ground in the North due to recent defections from other major parties.
One notable example, according to him, is the former APC governorship candidate in Adamawa State, Aishatu Binani, who recently joined the ADC.
Gwale said such moves show that the coalition is becoming more attractive.
He listed several key issues that concern Northern voters.
These include the removal of fuel subsidy, high food prices, increased electricity bills, costly school fees in universities, rising insecurity, and widespread nepotism.
Gwale believes that these problems will strongly influence how people vote in 2027.
“There are many people working behind the scenes, and people in the North are giving the coalition serious consideration.
Northerners will come out and vote for any candidate under the coalition. They believe it’s the only way to end Tinubu’s administration. If they turn out, the current leadership will be in serious danger because of the numbers and political actors involved,” he said.
