During an interview with Arise News, former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi opened up about the controversial claims surrounding his rise to power. He addressed lingering narratives that suggest he was installed as governor by certain political actors, firmly rejecting those claims and offering clarity on how he emerged as the state’s leader. He also condemned Wike’s claim that he made Fubara governor.
Amaechi emphasised that his path to the office was not by political manipulation or favouritism but through divine intervention and legal backing. He credited God, former Governor Dr Peter Odili, and the Nigerian judiciary for his eventual emergence, following a highly contested legal battle that reshaped the political landscape in Rivers State at the time.
According to him, “Nobody made me governor. God, Dr Peter Odili and the Nigerian judiciary (made me governor). And as a journalist, nobody has ever asked that man that says he made the governor, How did you make this man (Fubara) governor? Nobody has ever asked that question.”
