According to a report by Al Jazeera, Arab American supporters of the US president have reacted to the recent ceasefire agreement with cautious optimism, though concerns remain that Israel might breach the terms.
Samra’a Luqman, a lifelong Democrat who shifted her support to Trump in 2024, played an active role in mobilizing the Arab American community in Dearborn, Michigan. Her motivation was the hope that Trump could bring an end to the conflict in Gaza.
Now, following Trump’s involvement in brokering the ceasefire, Luqman expresses both excitement and a sense of vindication, reflecting on the criticism she faced from neighbors upset by her endorsement of Trump due to his stance on Israel.
“It’s almost an ‘I told you so moment’,” said Luqman, a Yemeni American, in an interview with Reuters.
She added, “No other president would have been able to force Bibi to approve the ceasefire,” referring to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
For Luqman and others in the Arab American community, the agreement represents a rare moment of political satisfaction amid the ongoing regional tensions. Despite lingering doubts about Israel’s compliance, supporters see Trump’s role as pivotal in achieving a temporary halt to hostilities.
While the ceasefire is fragile, the sense of relief among those who advocated for Trump’s intervention is palpable. For Luqman, it serves as both a personal vindication and a testament to what she sees as Trump’s unique influence over international negotiations in the Middle East. See, More, Here>>>
