The removal of subsidy for the production of international passports for Nigerians generated controversies after the reports went viral across various social media platforms, with many putting blames on the federal government.
The former governor of Anambra State and erstwhile Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi was not left out as he took to his official X handle to criticism the removal, citing concerns over inability of Nigerians to meet demands.
However, Lere Olayinka, the senior special adviser on media to the former governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike while addressing the international passport subsidy removal, used the opportunity to take a serious swipe at the former Anambra governor.
According to the statements which were shared on his official X handle, he pointed out that Nigeria government used to pay N28 thousands for every passport produced, a payment which he believed was unacceptable.
He further disclosed that a country that was no longer paying for fuel, a commodity used by almost all Nigerians should not pay for international passports used by less than one percent of the population.
