Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday delivered an emotional tribute to slain conservative commentator Charlie Kirk, saying the killing revealed a wider crisis of political violence that threatens public figures on both sides of the Atlantic. Netanyahu made the comments during an interview on Fox News’s The Faulkner Focus, where he lamented, “It’s President Trump, who has been almost assassinated twice, or they try to kill me here too. But they got Charlie Kirk, and it’s just heartbreaking.”

Netanyahu framed Kirk as a “once-in-a-generation” ally of Israel and a staunch defender of free speech and Judeo-Christian values, saying the commentator’s death was not only a personal loss but a warning about the erosion of civility in public life. The prime minister tied the episode to what he described as a global pattern in which extremists and ideological foes turn to violence despite professing concern for human rights.

Kirk, founder and CEO of Turning Point USA, was fatally shot while speaking at an event at Utah Valley University on Sept. 10, in what U.S. authorities have called a targeted attack. The killing prompted an immediate manhunt and widespread condemnation from political leaders across the United States. Federal investigators recovered a suspected rifle and have released surveillance images as they pursue leads.

The assassination has intensified national debate over the tone of political rhetoric and the security of public gatherings. Conservative leaders, including former President Donald Trump, have angrily blamed left-wing rhetoric for stoking violent sentiment, while other commentators stressed that inflammatory language across the political spectrum raises the risk of copycat attacks. Netanyahu’s remarks — echoing concerns voiced by many U.S. conservatives — have added an international dimension to that debate.

Netanyahu also used the interview to praise Kirk’s longstanding support for Israel, describing him as a friend who viewed advocacy for the Jewish state as a moral obligation. The prime minister urged calm and called for political leaders everywhere to lower the temperature of public discourse even as investigations continue and authorities work to bring the shooter to justice.
