In an interview on Arise News from 7:10, the Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Ali Ndume, Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South Senatorial District, has recalled a tense moment during a 2018 meeting between former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari and then U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House.

Ndume shared his recollection of the encounter, describing how Trump confronted Buhari over reports of the killing of Christians in Nigeria at the time.

The senator emphasized that the meeting reflected international concern over Nigeria’s security challenges during the former administration.

Ndume said, “Buhari has to go to Washington and meet with Donald Trump, then convince him because I remember he told me then that Donald Trump looked at him in the face and said, ‘You are there and they are killing Christians. What the hell is going on?’ And you know Buhari, being a calm person, allowed Trump to vent out.”

According to Ndume, Buhari’s composure and diplomatic approach during that exchange helped ease tensions and provided an opportunity to explain Nigeria’s complex security situation, which at the time involved insurgency, banditry, and communal clashes across various regions.

The lawmaker stated that the late former president used the occasion to present Nigeria’s efforts in combating terrorism and promoting religious harmony, despite the widespread perception of targeted attacks on Christian communities. View, More,
