Security strategist Dr. David Okoror has highlighted a disturbing episode of insecurity in Nigeria’s recent history, revealing the extreme risks faced by trained security personnel in the line of duty.

Speaking in an interview on Channels Television from 0:51, Dr. Okoror recounted how a group of approximately 22 trained rangers were ambushed and killed, and the tragic aftermath that followed.

“Nigeria had people that were trained as rangers, they were ambushed and killed, about 22 of them or so,” he said, emphasizing the severity of the attack.

Okoror went on to describe the next sequence of events. “When an aircraft was sent to go and evacuate their bodies, that aircraft was also shot down by bandits and the bandits went straight to the aircraft and killed those who were surviving there,” he revealed, highlighting the audacity of the attackers and the vulnerabilities of Nigeria’s security apparatus.

The security strategist argued that the incident exposed critical gaps in intelligence, planning, and operational execution. According to him, the ability of bandits to not only ambush trained rangers but also target a military aircraft demonstrates a level of organization that the nation must urgently address.

Dr. Okoror called for a comprehensive overhaul of Nigeria’s security strategies, emphasizing the need for intelligence-driven operations, improved aerial and ground surveillance, and stronger coordination between the military, paramilitary units, and local communities. He also stressed the importance of protecting personnel and ensuring safe recovery operations when attacks occur. View, More,
