During a recent interview on News Central TV from 3.12, social commentator Ireti Bakare Yusuf spoke strongly about the suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. She questioned the idea of applying a “political solution” to her case, comparing it to the situation of Governor Fubara in Rivers State.
Yusuf asked, “Did Fubara really find a political solution? It was imposed on him. In Nigeria, we keep dressing up nonsense as if it makes sense.”
She explained that Natasha’s six-month suspension from the Senate was completely wrong because the Constitution only allows a senator to be suspended for 14 days. For her, the bigger issue is that the Senate, which is supposed to make laws, has chosen to break the law.
Yusuf also pointed out that the Senate President, who is the third-highest-ranking official in the country, should respect the constitution instead of disregarding it. She argued that it is unfair to expect Senator Natasha to look for a so-called “political solution” when it was politics and democracy that put her in office in the first place.
In a sharp remark, Yusuf asked if the so-called solution was for Natasha to switch political parties and join the ruling APC, “like everybody else.” She rejected this idea, saying it is not a solution but a way of cutting her out of her rightful place.
In her words, “What political solutions or position is he looking for? For her to change parties? Cross carpet, flyover to APC? Like everybody else, no, that’s not a solution.”…Explore , More , News
