Former presidential candidate and human rights activist Omoyele Sowore has described Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan as a friend while acknowledging their past disagreement over his ideological movement in 2019.
Speaking during an interview with Platinum TV from 1:13, Sowore explained their relationship and his continued support for the Kogi Central senator. “Natasha is my friend, but Natasha was one of the persons who said we don’t need a revolution in 2019. But till tomorrow, I support her, and I’ve given her all the best support that I can,” he said.
The activist used the opportunity to advocate for greater female representation in Nigerian politics, arguing that women’s voting strength should translate to political power. “We need Nigerian women to be represented—as many of them as we have—their percentage in the population. So, there are 51% of our women voting in elections. There should be 51% of women in the Senate,” Sowore stated.
He expressed puzzlement at why women haven’t leveraged their numerical advantage to win the presidency. “I don’t see why women don’t vote for a candidate to win the presidency. They have the numbers. They just need to convince their husbands and their friends. Whomever they know, they will win. They have the numbers,” he explained.
Sowore challenged women to change their approach to politics and stop accepting subordinate roles. “But women have to stop also playing second fiddle to men. Stop being the ones that they put their party clothes on. You are the ones who will stand at their rallies. You are the ones who will sweep the place when they are gone. You have to accept that you are equal to men,” he declared. See, More, Here>>>>
