Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Cletus Obun, has claimed that suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan should have prioritized the interest of her constituents by apologizing to the Senate at the onset, which could have prevented the matter from escalating to this level.

Speaking in an interview with Arise News Television on Wednesday from 16:17, he maintained that Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan could have easily apologized for her alleged insubordination in the Senate and avoided suspension, which has now left her people without proper representation for over six months.

He said: “This is a simple matter. If you had apologized as you are standing there. Natasha as you were standing here, if you had apologized to this house for this shouting that you did, you would have just sat back and we wouldn’t have anything to do.”

Obun further accused the suspended senator of pursuing personal interests in the Senate by blowing the issue out of proportion to the detriment of her constituents.

“Secondly, she went to court and the court said what your colleagues did is within their right, the law and the constitution. What does it take her, she came there for grandstanding and personal gains. For the sake of her community and her people, she should have apologized and gone back to her seat.”

Furthermore, he expressed support for the decision of the Senate leadership not to authorize her return despite the completion of her six-month suspension. According to him, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan still has an active case in the Court of Appeal against the Senate, which must be resolved before she can be allowed back into the chambers to exercise her legislative duties.
