Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai recently took to his official X handle, previously known as Twitter, to address interpretations of a religious quote he shared. In a tweet posted on Friday, El-Rufai clarified the intention behind his message, which had sparked various reactions from the public.
El-Rufai’s original tweet contained the Islamic phrase “inna lillahi wa inna ilaihir raji’un,” which translates to “from God we all came and to Him we shall all return.” The phrase, often used to express condolences or reflect on the transient nature of life, was met with speculation and concern among his followers, who interpreted it as a cryptic message.
“FRIDAY MESSAGE: It seems to me that my translation of ‘inna lillahi wa inna ilaihir raji’un’ meaning ‘from God we all came and to Him we shall all return’ has been reinterpreted by those obsessed with reading my messages as a ‘cryptic message’ to some unnamed persons,” El-Rufai explained.
The former governor expressed surprise at the reactions, stating that the reminder was intended to explain the concept of ultimate accountability and divine judgment, rather than serve as a veiled communication. He emphasized that the message was straightforward and devoid of any hidden implications.
“It seems to me that the reminder has unsettled some people and distressed a lot more,” he noted. “It is neither a cryptic nor a coded message. Just a reminder of ultimate accountability and judgment of God, not that of infallible humans.”
El-Rufai concluded his message by reassuring the public of his intentions and wishing them a pleasant weekend. “I will end it here and today as I do not want to unsettle or distress anyone. Enjoy the weekend,” he wrote….Seë_Morë
