A PDP Chieftain, Segun Showunmi has alleged that the National Association of Nigeria Students NANS and the Labour Union will soon start a Nation wide protest against the lastest fuel hike. He identified that Nigerians will soon take to the streets to demand that the government listens to their plight. He appealed to the government to consider the human impact of their decisions, particularly the recent fuel price hike.
He urged the government to think about the citizens, especially those in rural areas and how they are coping with the current situation. He highlighted the domino effect of the fuel price hike on transportation and food costs, which will disproportionately affect the most vulnerable members of society. He expressed disappointment that the government failed to capitalize on the joy of local production by Dangote and instead chose to implement a fuel hike that will negatively impact the people.
He said in an interview with Channels TV From 15:40, ”Without being political, you have to be humanist. You have to look at the faces of your citizens, your cousins in the villages and in every part of the country. And just imagine how they are coping even as at today. And you know for a fact that the price of these things will impact transportation. Transportation price will affect cost of food.
They couldn’t even give us the benefit of enjoying the fact that now we have local production in Dangote and our expectation will be something better. They had to come and kill everybody’s joy on the same day. No, the people will respond to this inhumane fuel hike. NANS has told them there is going to be a protest, Labour will soon join them. And by the grace of God almighty, we will all empty into the street and ensure that they listen to us.”….Vïew–Morê
