Senator Natasha Akpoti-Legbe has raised concerns about what she perceives as deliberate efforts to sideline her from political and international engagements. Speaking during an interview with the Brekete Family on Human Rights Radio and Television, she detailed various instances where she felt systematically excluded following a controversial nightclub incident last year. These exclusions, she noted, have affected both her political standing and her participation in global discussions.
One of the key issues she highlighted was her removal from international engagements, including a United Nations event where she was initially nominated but later dropped from the list. She stated that, since last year, she has had to personally finance her international activities as official sponsorship and recognition have been withdrawn. This, she believes, is part of a larger attempt to limit her visibility and influence beyond Nigeria’s borders.
In addition to international exclusions, Senator Natasha pointed out what she sees as an effort to diminish her presence within the Senate. She noted that her seat, which was already positioned at the back, was suddenly moved to an even less visible location without prior notification. She interpreted this move as a calculated attempt to restrict her participation in legislative proceedings by making it difficult for cameras to capture her contributions during sessions.
Further compounding her concerns, she cited her removal from the Local Content Committee, a development she attributes to misconceptions about her role in discussions on resource allocation. She explained that her advocacy for feed gas supply to key national projects, including the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano pipeline and the expansion of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) infrastructure, was misinterpreted as an attempt to divert resources from the Niger Delta to the North. This, she argued, was an unfair characterization of her intentions.
Despite these challenges, the Senator expressed appreciation for the continued support from Nigerians who have stood by her. She warned that there were ongoing efforts to have her suspended from the Senate, suggesting that her outspoken stance on critical national issues may have made her a target. However, she remained resolute, stating that any attempt to silence her would not deter her from advocating for policies and projects she believes in.
According to her, “My seat was already at the back, but suddenly, without any notice, it was moved to a far corner, away from the cameras. If you sit there, the cameras won’t pick you up unless they zoom out.

Following her revelations, Human Rights Radio attempted to reach out to Senate President Godswill Akpabio for a response, but their efforts were unsuccessful. With no official reaction from the Senate leadership, her claims have continued to generate discussions among political observers and the public, raising questions about the dynamics of power and influence within Nigeria’s legislative space.
