“My mother bought me a bicycle as a Cadet and she bought me a car as a Second Lieutenant,” Isama said during the interview. “I rode car before everybody.”
According to Isama, while many of his colleagues were still struggling with transportation, he stood out as one of the few officers who had his own vehicle and not just any car, but a limousine.
“I was using a limousine in the army,” he revealed, drawing surprise from the host. “But I used a limousine to be able to carry all my children.”
The revelation stunned many listeners, as the image of a young officer driving a limousine through army barracks was far from the usual perception of military life in those days. Isama noted that his mother’s dedication and investment gave him an edge and comfort that was rare among his peers.
His account has sparked conversations online about family support, privilege and the personal sacrifices behind public service. Isama’s story not only highlights the power of parental support but also provides a unique perspective on life in the Nigerian military during his time.
