The widow of Maxwell Chukwuma, who was shot and killed by police officers at their home in Ikwerre Local Government Area, has shared details of the incident. She explained that on the night the sad incident happened she was in the kitchen with her husband when police officers arrived at their house.

Speaking in a video shared by News Central TV, the widow recounted that her husband went to the backyard door and used his body to hold it shut while she went to speak with the officers. She said when she asked them what was going on, they demanded that she open the door, but she refused and insisted on knowing the reason for their presence.

The widow said she returned to the kitchen and informed her husband about the officers’ demand but he instructed her not to open the door. She disclosed that her husband handed her his phone and three thousand naira, telling her he would exit the house through the pigeonhole. She said as he made his way out, one of the officers, whom she recognized, shouted for others to fire at him. She added that despite her desperate pleas, asking them not to shoot, one officer fired at her husband.

In her words: “He told me that he would follow through the pigeonhole and go outside. So when he passed through the pigeonhole to go outside one policeman who I know started shouting fire, shoot him down and I was begging the policemen not to shoot my husband. As soon as the man said shoot him, one of the policemen opened fire.
