In an Instagram interview shared on his official account on Thursday, August 7, 2025, veteran journalist, publisher, and political figure Dele Momodu reflected on his personal accomplishments as he celebrated his 65th birthday, sharing poignant recollections.

Momodu provided a thorough explanation of the commitments he made to himself and how they were fulfilled when asked about the routines or objectives he had abandoned or accomplished by the age of 65: “Before I was 65, I set timelines, deadlines for myself, things that I must accomplish.” For instance, I launched a leadership centre in Ibadan a few years ago because I wanted to, but there were many obstacles on my path. But in the end, I managed to finish it.

In addition, Momodu talked passionately about Yeve, his father’s ancestral village in Edo State’s Orwani Local Government Area. He said that, out of concern for spiritual harm, his father never took them there before his death in 1973: “My father did not take us there before he died in 1973.” He feared that we would be murdered by witches and wizards. Thus, I didn’t find my town until many years after my father’s death.

He explained how he was able to purchase and develop land in the hamlet with the assistance of a buddy named Friday Aroga and a relative who works as a builder: “This guy is so blessed, so gifted, so talented.” And he simply went to get the land for me. Three, four, six plots, a huge, enormous space… This man finished the construction from start to finish, from acquiring the site to tarring the road with concrete, to installing solar-powered street lights, to painting our neighbours’ faces.

Momodu recalled his initial tour of the finished building and commended Mrs. Alegbe, the interior decorator, referring to her work as “a miracle of God”: Nobody will tell me now that the Yoruba people are okay with him because they have stolen or misappropriated him from us. That is what God has done.

Additionally, he affirmed that the Dele Momodu Foundation and the Dele Momodu Leadership Centre in Ibadan are now formally registered and operating.

He remarked, “My home in Ghana, I’ve been in Ghana, the first time I got to Ghana was July 25th, 1995, on my way to exile in London,” in reference to his long-standing bond with Ghana. I’ve maintained a strong contact with Ghana and Ghanaians ever since, and by this point, everyone even regards me as an honorary Ghanaian.

Momodu concluded by expressing appreciation and contentment, saying, “I think God has done for me everything that I planned.” Anything we do after that is a bonus.
