Former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has challenged claims made by Boss Mustapha regarding former President Muhammadu Buhari’s electoral strength, emphasizing that Buhari’s 12 million loyal voters were insufficient in three consecutive elections.

Speaking in an interview on Arise News from 2:47, Omokri argued that Buhari’s consistent northern support base could not deliver the presidency without strategic alliances beyond his geopolitical stronghold. He pointed to Buhari’s losses in 2003, 2007, and 2011 as evidence that regional loyalty alone was not enough to win a national election.

Omokri’s remarks came in response to Mustapha’s statement at a recent book launch, where he suggested that Buhari was already poised to win in 2015 with or without support from other regions.

Countering this, Omokri maintained that only when Buhari aligned with political forces from the South, particularly Bola Tinubu, did he achieve success at the polls.

He argued that it was Tinubu’s influence and political network that ultimately secured the presidency for Buhari.

In his words: “Look, President Buhari had a captive vote of 12 million. He’s always had that since 2003. What did he do with it? He lost in 2003. He lost in 2007. He lost in 2011. He was only able to win when something from the South was added to his captive 12 million votes.”
