Niger Delta activist and traditional ruler, Asari Dokubo, has raised concerns over how international travel restrictions may be influencing public expression among some Nigerians.
In a video from 1:10:57 shared on Facebook on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, Dokubo suggested that fear of possible consequences, including visa denials, could be limiting how openly people speak on global issues, especially those involving powerful nations.
According to Dokubo, “Muslims in Nigeria don’t want to speak out because they can’t get visas to go to America.” He made the remark while discussing how access to international travel, particularly to the United States, might be affecting public commentary on sensitive matters.
He stressed that freedom of expression should not be shaped by external pressures such as visa policies or diplomatic considerations.
Dokubo also emphasized the need for courage and independent thinking in national conversations, noting that people should speak based on conviction rather than fear of repercussions.
