Dr. Moses Paul, known on X as @Drmopaul, shared his reaction to reports of over 200 deaths in recent attacks on Benue State communities.
The attacks, linked to clashes between herders and locals, have raised concerns, with casualty estimates varying between 100 and over 200 according to different sources.
Dr. Paul’s post reflects on the tragic loss of lives, including internally displaced persons (IDPs), soldiers, women, and children. He stated, “While some Nigerians are busy fighting one another on social media, shouting over Israel and Iran, two nations with governments that defend their people, back home, over 200 innocent Nigerians have been butchered in Benue.” He further questioned the lack of response, asking, “Where is the outrage for Benue? Where are the endless debates? Where are the hashtags? Where is the government? Where is the Church? Where are the Mosques? Where are the people?”
He emphasized the government’s responsibility, noting, “A government that can not protect its citizens has failed. Security is not a privilege. It is the most basic responsibility of leadership.” Dr. Paul also highlighted societal complicity, stating, “To Nigerians: Until we value Nigerian lives like we value foreign lives, we will keep mourning. Until we speak with one voice against injustice at home, our own blood will continue to flow. We are our own problem. We are our own enablers.”
