Joseph Aloba, father of the late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, also known as Mohbad, has expressed concern over the handling of his son’s death investigation. He alleged that while Mohbad had two phones, only one was submitted to the authorities, while the second phone remains with Wunmi, the late singer’s widow.
In an interview with Vanguard from 4:23, Aloba questioned the police’s investigative approach, suggesting that all available evidence should be properly examined.
He stated, “Really, I am not educated, but with the little I know, it is not supposed to work like that. The two are supposed to work together. The police should call those who found the body and check everything together. We are in the modern age now, and a lot of things can be linked through forensic technology. Only the police can handle that.”
He further noted his dissatisfaction with how certain aspects of the case have been handled, particularly the missing phone. According to him, both of Mohbad’s phones should have been submitted for investigation, as they might contain crucial information.
Aloba said, “Even with what I heard, Mohbad was using two phones. They only submitted one. What about the second one? The second phone is with Wunmi, which I know. Those are the areas that concern me, and I am not pleased. I am not happy at all.”
The grieving father also expressed frustration with those assisting him in seeking justice for Mohbad. He believes their efforts have not been satisfactory and called on the government to intervene.
“We can’t do anything without the police. The police are doing the little they can, but the people working with me—I am not pleased with what they are doing. I want the government to help me check them, whether they should change the people handling that aspect,” he added.
