Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has revealed that former President Goodluck Jonathan and former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi could join the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) if Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah defects from the party.
Speaking during coverage by Symfoni TV from from 6:06, Governor Mohammed addressed speculation about Governor Mbah’s possible departure from the PDP. “It is a personal decision. We cannot just remove his (Peter Mbah) picture before he leaves. So at the time he leaves, we are going to replace him with another person. At least there are a few governors around,” he said.
The Bauchi governor indicated that Mbah has not formally communicated any intention to leave the party. “But to me, up to now, he has not told me that he’s leaving. And I know I have discussed this issue with him severally, and he has given me assurances,” Governor Mohammed stated.
He emphasized that he respects Mbah’s autonomy as a fellow state executive. “But as I said, he’s a governor like me. He’s not under me. He’s my colleague. I respect him, and I respect his decisions,” the governor said.
Governor Mohammed then revealed the potential high-profile replacements if Mbah departs. “If at the end of the day he leaves, we are going to have another person. Jonathan and Obi are coming. And that is what makes PDP tick. People are still interested in this party, and these big names are associated with us, coming to our party. Definitely, we are happy,” Governor Mohammed said.
