Jake Epelle, a well-known public affairs analyst, has shared strong views about the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State. During an interview with News Central TV from 8.40, he said that too much attention is being given to Nyesom Wike, the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), who was also the former governor of Rivers State.
Epelle reminded the public that Wike once said on national TV that he would never accept a ministerial role, claiming he had served enough. Yet, he later accepted the FCT Minister job. According to Epelle, Wike should focus on fixing the FCT, but instead, he is still trying to control politics in Rivers State.
He believes this desire for power is hurting the state. “We’ve gone from one political crisis to another, and it hasn’t ended,” Epelle said. He also mentioned that Rivers State is now being mocked by others due to the chaos caused by one man’s ambition.
Epelle called this situation “state capture,” meaning one person is trying to control the state completely. He warned President Tinubu not to rely on Wike to win support in Rivers State in the next election.
“If the president thinks Wike will help him win Rivers State in 2027, he should think again,” Epelle said. “Mark my words; With Wike, Tinubu will lose Rivers State. Without Wike, he will win it.”
