In a report by Daily Trust on Thursday, October 9, 2025, the Federal Capital Territory Police Command has provided additional information regarding the ongoing investigation into the violent robbery that claimed the lives of ARISE News staff member, Ms. Somtochukwu Christella Maduagwu, and a security guard, Mr. Barnabas Danlami, in Gishiri Village, Katampe District, Abuja.

According to a statement from the Command, one of the principal suspects, identified as Shamsudeen Hassan, confessed during interrogation that he drove the white Honda CR-V belonging to one of the victims out of the apartment after the operation.

Police operatives disclosed that the suspect admitted to being in charge of moving the stolen vehicle from the crime scene to an undisclosed location shortly after the group completed the robbery.

Investigators explained that the confession was obtained during an extensive questioning session led by operatives of the Scorpion Squad under the supervision of ACP Victor Godfrey, who coordinated the arrests of the suspects.

Authorities said the suspect’s admission further established his direct involvement in the crime and corroborated intelligence findings that linked him to the stolen property recovered during follow-up operations.

In addition to Hassan’s confession, the police revealed that four of the arrested suspects also admitted to sharing the proceeds of the robbery after selling stolen items taken from the apartment.

According to the police statement, each of the four suspects received ₦200,000 as their share from the proceeds of the crime, which included valuables and cash stolen during the attack.

The Command emphasized that the monetary distribution among the suspects highlighted the organized nature of the criminal operation and the level of coordination among members of the gang.

Police sources confirmed that the confession and recovered exhibits—including weapons, phones, and the stolen vehicle—would serve as key evidence in prosecuting the suspects.
