Former National Treasurer of the Labour Party, Oluchi Okpara, referenced a previous statement by Aisha Yesufu to clarify why the party did not pay agents to be present at all polling units during the 2023 Presidential election.
Speaking in an interview aired on Channels Television, she recalled Aisha Yesufu explaining that she had to halt the payment of agents for the Labour Party after discovering that the list of names provided to her was not authentic.
“I heard when someone was talking about agents not being paid. I listened to Aisha when she came public, she said that the names given to her to pay as agents were fake people. They were fake names and there was no way she could have continued.”
Oluchi Okpara affirmed that Peter Obi operated a separate account for his presidential campaign during the last election, stating there was nothing wrong with this approach by the former Anambra State Governor. She emphasized that Aisha Yesufu had already presented a detailed account of how the funds in Peter Obi’s campaign account were spent.
Furthermore, she stated that Peter Obi met all the necessary requirements to contest for the presidency under the Labour Party. According to Okpara, Obi went a step further by making donations to the party and personally financing some of its programs. She made these revelations to refute the allegations of fund misappropriation involving Peter Obi within the Labour Party.
Her words: “First of all, we have a statutory amount fixed for every office you want to vie for. Peter Obi met every requirement required of him and he even donated to the party. I am here to speak and say that I have every right to speak on this issue, Mr. Arabambi doesn’t have any right, he doesn’t even know what happens with the accounts”.
