The National Secretary of the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP), Peter Ameh, accused President Bola Tinubu of destroying every fabric of the economy during his two years in office.
According to a report by Daily Post, Ameh, a former presidential aspirant, made these remarks during an interview on Arise News on Friday night.
He insisted that the way the fuel subsidy was removed was insensitive on the part of the President. Ameh stated that the President and his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), implemented some policies without considering Nigerians who were already suffering hardships caused by the previous administration.
He expressed surprise at members of the ruling party who continue to defend the government, questioning whether they lived in an alternate universe or were too afraid to face the reality of the challenges Nigerians were experiencing.
He argued that the suffering on the streets was evident and that the liberal economic principles and policies being pursued adversely affected the most vulnerable. He emphasized that any policy initiated needed to be well-planned and questioned whether the APC members were aware of the consequences of their actions.
Ameh declined to engage in statistics or figures, stating that such data did not truly reflect the current hardships faced by people on the streets of the country.
Further talking, he said, “In the last two years, the President has worsened our economic progress. He has destroyed everything he met on ground. Let me tell you one thing, at the time the President came, a litre of fuel was N197 but it is about 1000 today, because he removed the fuel subsidy without plan, without policy direction.”
“It was an impromptu decision that was not well thought out, because you need to have a policy, then you need to have a plan and how to cushion the effect of those policies,” he added.
