According to the CABLE,gunmen suspected to be assassins on Wednesday killed an Anambra-based lawyer, Barrister Ifeanyi Iloakasi, and his client while they were returning from a court session.

The gruesome incident occurred at the Nanka/Agulu boundary in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Barrister Iloakasi, who also served as the President General of the Aguleri community in Anambra East, was reportedly ambushed and shot dead while driving a red Toyota Camry while his client, who attempted to flee the scene by jumping out of the vehicle, was chased down and also killed by the gunmen.

Witnesses and community members believe the attack may have been a targeted assassination, possibly linked to a sensitive case the lawyer was handling.

According to police sources, the victims were returning from High Court II in Ekwulobia, where the lawyer had secured the release of an accused person in a murder trial. Some suspect this legal victory may have angered opposing parties and led to the deadly ambush.

The Anambra State Police Command confirmed the attack,adding that a third person who survived the assault is currently receiving medical treatment and currently providing the police with crucial information that could help track down the killers.

Meanwhile,the State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, visited the crime scene at Egbebelu village in Nanka along with other senior officers while assuring the public that a full investigation is underway.

The police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga revealed that tactical and intelligence teams have been deployed to hunt down the perpetrators and ensure justice is served.

The recovered vehicle, along with witness statements and evidence from the survivor, is expected to play a key role in unraveling the motive behind this brutal killing. The bodies have been identified and released to their families.
