An explosion at the Tabriz refinery in northwestern Iran has left eight people injured, according to an announcement by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The incident occurred on Saturday, triggering confusion over the exact cause of the blast.
Initial reports from a local crisis management official claimed that the explosion resulted from efforts to dispose of unexploded Israeli ordnance in the area. This statement immediately raised eyebrows, suggesting possible covert military activities or recent attacks linked to tensions between Iran and Israel.
However, the IRGC released a different account, stating that the explosion occurred during routine maintenance work—specifically while changing the refinery’s nitrogen tank.
