In an interview with News Central TV from 5:06 , former Lagos State Deputy Governor and Senator Kofoworola Bucknor-Akerele raised serious concerns about the integrity of elections and governance in Lagos State.
Responding to questions about governance in Lagos, Bucknor-Akerele disputed the legitimacy of recent electoral outcomes. “As far as I know, the people are not electing them. These people are being imposed by all sorts of means,” she stated.
The former deputy governor described what she characterized as widespread electoral irregularities during the last election. “The last election, we saw people burning ballot boxes, snatching ballot boxes, doing all sorts of unconscionable things,” she said, questioning whether votes in those circumstances were properly counted. “And so, are you saying that the votes of those people in those ballot boxes counted? I don’t think so,” Bucknor-Akerele added.
She further alleged that voter suppression occurred in various locations. “There are places where people were not allowed to vote,” she claimed.
Most notably, the senator accused election officials of ethnic profiling at polling stations. “There are places where people were being told they cannot vote because they simply look like Igbos,” she stated, illustrating her point: “So if you’re a Yoruba man and somebody thinks you look like an Igbo man, therefore you cannot vote.”
Bucknor-Akerele concluded with a stark assessment of the electoral situation. “So I mean the whole thing is in shambles,” she said. View, More,
