Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mojisola Meranda, has reportedly agreed to step down, provided the resignation occurs during plenary, according to sources.
According to Vanguard, the House adjourned indefinitely on February 17 after 36 out of 40 lawmakers passed a vote of confidence in Meranda’s leadership.
Following interventions by All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders, it was resolved that she would step down to allow Lagos West to produce the next Speaker.
A source stated, “The resignation must happen during plenary.
Until the House reconvenes, the status quo remains.”
Delegates from APC’s national leadership in Abuja have been mediating, with figures like former APC National Chairman Bisi Akande, former Ogun State Governor Aremo Olusegun Osoba, and NNPC Board Chairman Pius Akinyelure working to resolve the crisis.
The next Speaker will be chosen from Lagos West, with Setonji David (Badagry 2), Temitope Adewale (Ifako-Ijaye 1), Kehinde Joseph (Alimosho 1), Adedamola Kasunmu (Ikeja 2), Lukman Olumoh (Ajeromi-Ifelodun 1), Wale Rauf Sulaimon (Mushin 2), Nureni Akinsanya (Mushin 1), and Surajudeen Tijani (Ojo 2) shortlisted.
