According to a report by Punch Newspapers on Saturday 28, June 2025, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has resigned as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, sparking widespread speculation and political calculations across the nation.
The resignation comes amidst intensifying internal rifts within the ruling party. According to elder statesman and political analyst Buba Galadima, the decision was not entirely voluntary.
In a statement on Friday, Galadima revealed that a high-level meeting held three days ago between key APC stakeholders and the presidency resulted in a resolution to “sacrifice” Ganduje and Vice President Kashim Shettima.
“I am not aware of the defection plan. However, I know Kwankwaso and Ganduje have personal issues. I am equally aware that there was a meeting of APC stakeholders and the presidency three days ago where they agreed that Ganduje and Shettima should be sacrificed to bring a new set of people into government and the party,” Galadima said.
This revelation has sparked debates over internal power dynamics within the APC, with some analysts suggesting it is part of a larger strategy to reposition the party ahead of future elections.
Ganduje, a former governor of Kano State, had been facing growing criticism both within and outside the party, including unresolved corruption allegations and lingering political feuds, notably with his long-time rival, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
While the APC has yet to officially announce a successor, sources say discussions are ongoing to install new leadership that better aligns with the presidency’s broader political vision.
As developments unfold, political watchers are keeping a close eye on how this move will reshape the party’s internal structure and its relationship with key political figures ahead of 2027.
