Abdulrasak Mamman, spokesperson for the civic group Say No to Violence in Ebira Land, has condemned the recall effort against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, calling it a product of political manipulation rather than the will of the people. In an interview with TVC News, Mamman alleged that those championing the recall are government appointees who did not support the senator’s election in the first place.
He described the recall attempt as part of a broader pattern of political oppression targeted at Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan. According to Mamman, her emergence as senator was met with significant institutional resistance, including directives that barred traditional rulers from engaging with her during her campaign. These actions, he said, reflected a dangerous trend of dictatorship and executive abuse of power within the state’s political landscape.
Despite this pressure, Mamman emphasized that the voice of the people prevailed. He noted that the senator’s victory demonstrated that no amount of elite interference could override the democratic will of the electorate.
“The people who’re calling for recall today are government appointees who never voted for her. We have seen perpetual demonstration of absolutism, dictatorship, abuse of power, and executive recklessness in the pursuance of making Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan a senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. During the campaign, all the traditional rulers were barred from receiving Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. But the will of the people supersedes that of the few elites,” Mamman said.
