Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, was reported to have cautioned Senator Ireti Kingibe against continuing her public criticisms of the minister.

According to The Nation, in a statement issued on Tuesday, Olayinka allegedly accused the FCT Senator of failing in her responsibilities, particularly pointing to the alleged non-payment of salaries to her legislative aides. He claimed that many of her aides had resigned after going without pay for as long as six months.

Describing her criticisms as unfounded, Olayinka was said to have advised Senator Kingibe to address internal issues within her office instead of invoking Wike’s name in what he described as an attempt to revive her “fading political career.”

The report noted that Senator Kingibe had recently stated in a television interview that Minister Wike was out of touch with the needs of FCT residents and alleged that his actions were contributing to growing public dissatisfaction.

In response, Olayinka was quoted as saying it was ironic for Kingibe to accuse anyone of being indifferent to the public, considering the way she allegedly treated her own aides. He added that Minister Wike would not allow himself to be distracted by what he termed political theatrics.

Olayinka said, “As of today, we know how many of Sen. Ireti Kingibe’s aides have resigned owing to non-payment of their salary, and immoral acts. We know one of her aides, who resigned because she allegedly had an immoral relationship with her boyfriend.”

Further talking, he said, “We also know what strained her relationship with her 3rd husband, Amb. Gana Kingibe, a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF). But we’ll keep our gunpowder dry for now.”
