In a recent statement via his official X account, former Senator Shehu Sani has shared his thoughts on Nigerians’ loyalty to their country.

He made his statement amid the country’s independence celebrations.

Sani expressed concern that many Nigerians are not as proud of their country as they should be.

He compared this attitude to how people treat their families.

He pointed out that even if a person comes from a poor home, they are usually proud of their parents and background.

According to him, this same pride and loyalty should apply to how Nigerians view their country, no matter its challenges.

“You are always proud of your poor home. You are proud of your poor father. You are never ashamed of your poor parents and poor village. You will never disown your poor parents and call Bill Gates or Warren Buffet your parents. Shouldn’t that principle apply to your country?” Shehu Sani wrote.

Sani’s comments come as Nigeria celebrate its independence, a time when people reflect on the country’s achievements and struggles.

He highlighted that, while Nigeria faces many difficulties, citizens should still stand by the nation.

The former senator’s message suggests that being proud of one’s country is a sign of true patriotism.

He argued that even if the country has problems, people should not turn their backs on it.

Instead, they should work towards improving it, just as they would support and care for their family in difficult times.
