In a recent video on Arise Tv from 03:24, Tony Okocha, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Caretaker Committee in Rivers State, has expressed disappointment over Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s failure to extend goodwill gestures to his predecessor and political benefactor, Nyesom Wike, during the Yuletide season.
Speaking on the lingering political tensions in the state, Okocha emphasized that the festive season was an opportune moment for reconciliation and bridge-building, even among political rivals. He questioned why Governor Fubara could not have taken a simple step, such as sending a congratulatory message to Wike on his birthday, celebrated on December 12th.
He described this perceived oversight as a missed opportunity for peace and reconciliation in Rivers State’s increasingly volatile political environment. According to Okocha, such gestures, though symbolic, play a significant role in easing political tensions and fostering dialogue.
The APC chairman further criticized Governor Fubara’s approach to governance, particularly his handling of ongoing disputes with stakeholders loyal to Wike. Okocha warned that if proactive measures are not taken to resolve these tensions, Rivers State could face deeper political instability in the months ahead.
He urged Governor Fubara to demonstrate maturity and statesmanship by prioritizing peace and unity in the state. “Politics should not override the fundamental principles of respect and gratitude. The governor must understand that leadership requires humility and diplomacy,” he added.
According to him, “The Governor of Rivers State and his immediate benefactor could not have been enemies. Even if they were, the season provided an opportunity to exchange goodwill. For example, what would it have taken for the Governor to send a simple congratulatory message on his benefactor’s birthday on December 12th?
