Tony Okocha, the APC NWC Caretaker Chairman, has revealed why the pro-Wike group are protesting against the upcoming local government election in Rivers State. He stated that they are protesting against the election because they believe that the election will not be transparent.

He identified that they have submitted their letters of protest to the DSS and CP, demonstrating their commitment to exploring all peaceful avenues to address their grievances. He argued that they are determined to obey the judgment of the Federal High Court, which ruled that the election should not hold. He noted that he was also joined by other prominent leaders of the APC in Rivers State, who are equally concerned about the integrity of the electoral process.

He said in an interview with Channels TV from 7:40, ”We have gone round in large numbers to visit the DSS and to hand over our letter of protest. We have also visited the CP to hand over our letter of protest. And so the protest that you are seeing today was very peaceful and we are exploring all peaceful Avenues to stop the election even when we have seen that the government had already prepared for violence and crisis.

But we are a law abiding political party and we are saying that we will obey the Judgment of the Federal High courts that were delivered on Monday that the election should not hold. I was leading the protest with the leaders of APC in River States which are known by the party. And the committee has given us another six months to operate. And so by December, I will not be here except there’s something else that happened.”
