At a recent event held in honor of former Head of State Ibrahim Babangida, former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo shared an interesting story about President Bola Tinubu’s past.

Speaking in a video shared by Sahara Reporters TV from 0:04, Osinbajo mentioned that Tinubu was elected as a senator in 1992 during Babangida’s transition program. He explained that when Babangida annulled the 1993 presidential election and General Sani Abacha took over, the military government dissolved the Senate, however, Senator Tinubu was not willing to accept that decision.

Osinbajo disclosed that Tinubu attempted to reconstitute the Senate, resisting the military’s decision to dissolve it. He said this act of resistance led to Tinubu’s detention and a legal case against him. Osinbajo further revealed that Tinubu managed to escape and went into exile. Osinbajo, in a lighthearted manner, said Tinubu is now celebrating with the people who tormented him in the past

He was detained, charged to court, he escaped into exile. Today he is also here to celebrate with his former tormentors but as president, commander in chief of the armed forces of Nigeria, President Bola Tinubu (sic)”
