Nigerian politician and lawyer, Kenneth Okonkwo has taken to his official X account on Saturday to speak about the 1966 coup in Nigeria.
His statement came after the former Head of State, Ibrahim Babangida gave an account of the coup in his latest book that he titled, “A Journey In Service”.
Okonkwo shared his thoughts following mixed reactions from Nigerians since the book was released.
Speaking about the coup, Kenneth Okonkwo stated that it’s time for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to use the revelation made by Babangida to apologize to the Igbo people. He said what happened in 1966 was not an “Igbo coup” but a military coup.
According to Kenneth Okonkwo on his official X account;
“The Federal Government under Tinubu should use this opportunity of the revelation by IBB to formally apologize to Ndigbo for all the atrocities meted against them in those dark era of Nigeria history and find suitable reparations to compensate Ndigbo”.
