Former Governor Sule Lamido of Jigawa State has praised President Tinubu’s political skills and strength
In a live coverage by Daily Trust TV from 25:36, Lamido said Tinubu once reminded Buhari of a key moment when Buhari, discouraged and emotional over his unsuccessful presidential bids, was moved to tears. He said Tinubu disclosed that he assured Buhari then that he would help him become president, a promise he ultimately fulfilled.
According to Lamido, during the 2003 elections, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won across almost all of Nigeria’s southwestern states. However, Tinubu who was the Lagos State governor under the Alliance for Democracy (AD), managed to retain his position.
Lamido explained that Tinubu later switched to a different party, the Action Congress (AC), and the party still won the gubernatorial election in Lagos. He said Tinubu established himself as a major political force in Lagos.
In Lamido’s words: “Tinubu said Buhari I called you and you were crying, I said come I will make you president. Didn’t he say so? He said so”
