Senator Ned Nwoko has revealed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu gave him a personal assurance of support for the creation of Anioma State before his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The senator representing Delta North made this known during an interview on Channels Television from 22:51, where he discussed the progress and political backing behind the ongoing agitation for Anioma State.

According to him, “Tinubu assured me before I left the PDP for the APC that he would support it.” Nwoko explained that this assurance was one of the major reasons he decided to realign politically, stressing that he believes the president’s word and commitment to fairness among Nigeria’s regions.

“I had a long and sincere conversation with President Tinubu before I joined the APC,” Nwoko said. “He told me that he believes in equity and justice, and that he would stand behind the creation of Anioma State. I took his assurance seriously because he understands the importance of balance in our federation.”

The senator noted that the Southeast currently has only five states, unlike other regions that have six or more, and that the creation of Anioma State would correct this long-standing structural imbalance. He emphasized that the proposed state, carved from the Delta North Senatorial District, is economically viable, politically stable, and socially united in its demand for recognition.

“Tinubu is a man who keeps his promises,” Nwoko added. “He understands that Nigeria cannot truly progress if certain regions feel marginalized. The creation of Anioma State will bring justice not only to the people of Delta North but also to the entire Southeast.”

Nwoko reaffirmed his optimism that under Tinubu’s leadership, Nigeria would witness a new approach to state creation—one that focuses on equity and national development rather than political convenience.

“I believe the president will keep his word,” he concluded. “This is not just a promise to me; it is a promise to millions of Nigerians who believe in fairness and unity.”
