In a explosive interview on Arise TV FROM 6:24, longtime People’s Democratic Party (PDP) insider Lere Olayinka has made serious allegations about former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s role in what he describes as a series of actions that undermined the party’s stability over the years.

Olayinka delivered a scathing historical account, highlighting what he sees as pivotal moments of party discord. “Atiku, as Vice President of Nigeria under a PDP government, formed Action Congress,” he revealed, adding that Atiku “was among those who formed Action Congress (AC).”

In what he portrayed as an unprecedented political maneuver, Olayinka noted, “And as a sitting Vice President, he contested election as President of Nigeria as a candidate of Action Congress while still being Vice President, holding the mandate of PDP.”

Perhaps most significantly, Olayinka pointed to the events of 2014 as a critical turning point in PDP’s fortunes. “In 2014, because somebody was so desperate to contest the election and insisted that President Goodluck Jonathan would not have a second term, he led a rebellion,” he stated, explicitly adding, “And I’m talking about Atiku Abubakar again.”

The consequences of this rebellion, according to Olayinka, were far-reaching. “He led a rebellion that took PDP out of power in 2015. He was the one who led that rebellion,” he asserted. Making a bold claim about the historical impact of these actions, Olayinka declared, “If Atiku Abubakar did not lead that rebellion in 2014, PDP would still be in power today.”

Challenging current narratives about the party’s problems, Olayinka concluded with a rhetorical question: “So how did PDP’s problem start now?”

These revelations offer a controversial perspective on the PDP’s journey from being Nigeria’s dominant political force to its current opposition status. The account suggests that internal actions and personal ambitions, rather than external forces, may have played a more significant role in the party’s decline than previously acknowledged in public discourse.
