A Former Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Area, Dr. Samuel Nwanosike has alleged that since 11th of July that the Supreme Court ruled on the Illegality of Caretaker Committee, the Governor of Rivers State is still sending funds to the Local government caretaker committee. He stated that this committee has been illegally collecting revenue, harassing businesses, and intimidating citizens.

He highlighted the hypocrisy of the situation, noting that lawyers have attended functions with this caretaker committee, yet when a similar situation arose in Kano, lawyers objected to the committee’s continuation. He questioned the adherence to the rule of law in Nigeria, specifically in relation to Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s actions. He wondered if the governor is above the law and whether he would dare to sit in appeal against a Supreme Court decision.

He said in an interview with TVC from 17;53, ”If we say that we should obey the rule of law, if Governor Siminalayi Fubara above the law of Nigeria? Will Governor Fubara sit in appeal of the decision of the Supreme Court? Is that the democracy that people want us to practice? I’m here as Dr. Samuel Nwanosike, I have no right to stop Governor Fubara from conducting local government election in Rivers State.

He has everything in his hands and he decided to go the wrong route of institutions caretaker committee. Since July 11th funds are still given through Governor Fubara to illegal citizens. They are going to people’s businesses, beating up people and harassing people to collect revenue in the name of Caretaker committee. There are current functions attended by lawyer at the lower bat with this same caretaker committee men. But when it happened in Kano, their lawyers came out and said no that the caretaker committee should not be allowed to continue. Our point is, are we not in the same Nigeria?”….VìêwMorê
