Prominent Nigerian senator and human rights activist, Shehu Sani, has criticized the online labelling of the Nigerian President and other African leaders as the “most corrupt,” stating that such assessments lack solid evidence.

In a statement shared on his verified Twitter account, Sani dismissed these rankings as subjective political ratings rooted in opinions rather than concrete data.

“Labelling the Nigerian President and other African leaders as the most corrupt by online voting, and not by incontrovertible facts and figures, is more of a political rating crafted from views, opinions, and perspectives,” he tweeted.

Sani’s remarks appear to be a response to recent online polls and surveys that ranked certain African leaders unfavorably in terms of corruption. These rankings have sparked widespread debates on social media, with some individuals endorsing them while others, like Sani, questioning their credibility.

The former senator argued that such labels, derived from online platforms, are often influenced by personal biases, political inclinations, and regional sentiments. He emphasized the importance of basing corruption assessments on verifiable facts and figures, rather than subjective opinions or populist ratings.

Sani’s comments reflect growing concerns over the influence of unregulated online narratives on public opinion and the potential damage such claims could inflict on the reputations of political leaders and nations.
