The Police Public Relations Officer Muyiwa Adejobi has reacted to a report claiming that the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun has told Nigerians to beat any policeman who wants to check their phone.

The report quoted the Inspector General of Police as saying that;

“Bèat up any policeman who asks to check your phone, stone him if he has a gùn. Make sure to f¡ght back because it is your right to have a phone”.

Reacting to the report, Muyiwa Adejobi said the report is fake. In a statement that he titled, “IGP Never Ordered Beating, Attacks On Policemen” he said the IGP only told Nigerians to report instances of police misconduct through appropriate channels.

Here is what he wrote on his page;

“This claim is entirely false and has no basis in reality. The IGP has not issued any such directive encouraging violence against law enforcement officers. Instead, he has called on citizens to report instances of police misconduct through appropriate channels”.
