Daboikiabo Warmate, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, defended acting National Chairman Iliya Damagun, highlighting that he inherited the ongoing internal conflicts within the party. Warmate acknowledged that Damagun has been working tirelessly to unite the party but noted that the real issue lies with the party’s leaders, who are unwilling to make sacrifices.
He questioned why these grievances were not addressed during the tenure of the former chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, when members like Nyesom Wike were openly expressing their discontent. Warmate argued that the current blame placed on Damagun is misplaced, as the problems existed long before his leadership.
He said in an interview with Arise TV from 13:58, “What Damagun is doing in PDP is working, and let me make some of our leaders understand that Damagun inherited this crisis—this internal interest wrangling. He inherited it, and he has been working day and night to ensure that he unites the people.
But the problem lies with our people, our leaders—they don’t want to make sacrifices, and they put the blame on the acting National Chairman. Where were they when Ayu was there? Was Wike not in the party then? Was Wike not expressing his grievances? Why didn’t they ask Ayu to ask Wike to leave the party?”
