The Labour Party (LP) has urged opposition parties in Nigeria to unite ahead of the 2027 elections, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, said opposition leaders must work together to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), as reported by VANGUARD.
Ifoh said that opposition parties must learn from their mistakes in the 2023 elections.
He stressed that opposition leaders must make sacrifices and focus on liberating the country instead of prioritizing personal ambitions.
He also dismissed the idea of forming a new political party, saying that the Labour Party had already proven its strength.
He recalled that in less than eight months, the LP was able to cause a major upset nationwide.
According to him, there is no need to register another party when the LP is already a strong platform for the opposition.
Ifoh warned that if opposition parties fail to unite, they risk giving the ruling party an easy victory in 2027.
He said this is not just about individual politicians or their parties but about the future of Nigeria.
He called on opposition leaders to put aside their differences and work towards a common goal.
“We all should learn from what happened to us as opposition in 2023.”
“In spite of the electoral heist by the ruling party, imagine if all the votes that went to opposition parties went to one candidate. It will be nearly impossible for INEC and the APC to do what they did.”
“Going forward, opposition parties and leaders must unite, make sacrifices to liberate our country. This is more than the personal ambitions of individuals or their political platforms,” he said.
