A Senator representing Abia North, Sen Orji Kalu has stated that the Igbo people must unite behind a candidate with broad national appeal before they can successfully produce a Nigerian president.
In an interview with Channels TV from 32:44, the senator emphasized the necessity of wide political acceptance: “There is a need for an Igbo Presidency. But Igbos must present an acceptable candidate by all Nigerians; one zone can’t make a president. The president was not elected by Yorubas; he was elected by all Nigerians.”
When asked about the perfect timing for an Igbo presidency, he firmly backed the current administration’s full term: “We have only one presidential candidate now, and Tinubu has to do 8 years. Nigerian people can see the repairs in the economy, and things are coming down.”
The former Senate Chief Whip has consistently expressed skepticism about Peter Obi’s presidential ambitions. Sen. Kalu has maintained that the time is not yet right for Igbo leadership of Nigeria, arguing that Igbo political leaders need to build broader national alliances through extensive consultation across regional divides.
