Former Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Ambassador Chijioke Ihunwo has publicly apologized to the Ijaw nation while strongly criticizing the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike over ethnic political tensions in Rivers State.

In a video posted by SYMFONI from 10:12, Ihunwo openly opposed Wike’s alleged political ambitions stating that he could not become the governor of Rivers State.

He emphasized the need for fairness and equity in the state’s leadership, insisting that the riverine communities should be given the opportunity to govern after years of upland dominance.

“Our people will not support him, I’m not afraid. Anything can happen to me, I can go and die, no problem, but I must say the truth. He can’t be governor of Rivers State. Let us allow the riverine to do their tenure for eight years. We have done our own tenure for eight years,” Ihunwo declared.

His comments come amid rising political tensions in Rivers State where Wike, a key political figure in the state has been accused of attempting to control the affairs of the current administration led by Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

Ihunwo further accused Wike of deceit alleging that he rose to power through former President Goodluck Jonathan but later abandoned him and his family. “Wike came in through Jonathan after his lies and deceit. Today, where is Jonathan? Where is his wife?” he asked.

His remarks reflect growing resistance to Wike’s continued influence in Rivers politics.

By apologizing to the Ijaw nation, Ihunwo signaled a push for reconciliation and a call for a more inclusive political structure in the state.
