The APC Caretaker Committee Chairman, Tony Okocha, has expressed his strong disapproval of the notion that the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike has control over both the PDP and APC in Rivers state. He emphasized that Wike’s loyalty lies solely with the PDP and therefore, he cannot attend APC meetings.
He stated that inviting Wike to APC meetings would be pointless due to his unwavering commitment to the PDP. He highlighted the concept of “renewed hope” as a shared interest between the APC and Wike. He howver rejected the idea that Wike seeks to dominate the political structures of both parties in Rivers State. He questioned the existence of such structures, implying that Wike’s influence is exaggerated in the state.
He said in an interview with TVC from 17:50, ”I hate it when people say Wike is holding PDP and APC, Wike cannot attend APC meeting. He can never do that because he’s not our member. And we will not even bother to invite him to attend because he’s a staunch member of the PDP. But where we have an alignment of interest is in renewed hope. And what is renewed hope? It is the mantra of our president. So, we cannot possibly walk in opposition with him.
So, the defeatist arguments that we have heard, that he wants to own the APC and PDP structure in Rivers state, what structure is that? In my study of political science, a philosopher once said there is no permanent friend in politics, but we have permanent interest. If at any point my interest aligns with yours, we are good to go. So, Wike’s political structure is more in PDP, and that is where he has made his marks.”
