Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has responded to recent criticisms and attacks, asserting his stance on loyalty and governance. Speaking at an Inter-denominational Church Thanksgiving Service marking Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day at St. Paul’s Cathedral, Port Harcourt, Fubara stated that he would never compromise his integrity for loyalty, declaring, “I cannot give my kidney or liver to anybody. If that is the only reason for me to be loyal, I will not be.”
According to Vanguard News reports, Fubara said, “As a matter of fact, I belong to that school of thought that if I am the only person that needs to stand on that side of right, I will stand there. I don’t need anybody to stand with me. I cannot give my kidney or liver to anybody, I won’t. If that is the only reason for me to be loyal, I will not be. But, I will not do the wrong thing. I will stand for the side of right.”
Fubara also refuted allegations made by Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory Minister, who accused the Rivers State government of a state-sponsored attempt to bomb the venue of a civic reception in Wike’s honor. Fubara maintained that he had never called on any security agency in the state to engage in any illegal activities.
The Governor highlighted several key infrastructure projects initiated by his administration, noting the approval of a N200 billion loan from Zenith Bank to fund the construction of the 50.15-kilometer Port Harcourt Ring Road. Fubara also mentioned the ongoing Trans-Kalabari Road project, valued at N225.1 billion, as well as the construction of a General Hospital and a Psychiatric Hospital in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area. He emphasized that these projects were being funded without borrowing further, underscoring that they are part of his administration’s effort to improve the state.
In a direct comparison with previous administrations, Fubara claimed that his achievements in one year outpaced what was done over the past eight years. He remarked, “Tell them that what I did in one year is what they did in eight years. It is only an empty container that makes noise.”
Fubara also took the opportunity to address Rivers State’s growing Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) and the efforts his administration has made to sustain development without compromising the state’s interests. He noted that, despite the ongoing political struggle within the state, his priority remains the welfare of the people.
Spiritually reflecting on the state of affairs, Fubara said, “God has a reason for allowing the devil or the evil one to stay long… but He gives them time to repent.” He warned that continued opposition would face consequences, and urged his critics to act with humility.
Finally, Governor Fubara reaffirmed his membership in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), despite internal crises, and called for peaceful elections in the state, urging all participants to prioritize the people’s welfare. He concluded by expressing his commitment to guiding Rivers State toward sustained progress.
