Lauretta Onochie, a prominent member of the All Progressive Congress (APC), has expressed her outrage after House of Representatives member Alex Ikwechegh referred to a bolt driver as a “monkey” in a widely circulated video.

In her reaction posted on her official X account, Onochie condemned the remark, questioning how such derogatory language could be used between Nigerians.

She stated, “How did we get to the point where this young man is referring to a Nigerian, in Nigeria, as a monkey? That is racism. Totally unacceptable.” Onochie further criticized Ikwechegh’s behavior, which included physical aggression towards the individual he insulted, declaring that the police should take action against him. “Please Police do the needful. He has no immunity. He is sadly, a Legislator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” she emphasized.

Onochie highlighted that law enforcement agencies worldwide have the authority to arrest individuals without waiting for petitions, urging the police to act swiftly in this case. Her statements reflect a growing concern over the treatment of individuals in Nigeria and the need for accountability among public officials.
